I know that being a nanny can either be a joyful, or a miserable experience, depending on whether or not you are with the right family. My goal is to find you a family that you click with. People you want to create lasting relationships with. I also know that being a nanny, much like being a stay-at-home mom, can be a lonely experience! This is why my primary focus, after the placement, is to provide you with the ongoing support of other nannies. Not only so that you can arrange play-dates and have someone with whom to swap diaper-changing stories, but so that you can make friends!
The process...
Initial Interview: I sit down with you at a coffee shop and go over your application, and get a feel for your level of experience and what you are looking for in a family.
Prospects: once I have matched you with a potential family, I will call you with their information, and ask permission to give them your phone number so that they can contact you for an interview.
Call Backs: a family may request a second, longer interview with you.
The Agreement: once a family has chosen you and you have agreed, then I get together with you and them to sign the Nanny/Family Agreement.
Ongoing support: after you have been placed, we don't just drop you! By joining our co-op, you are provided with access to a monthly support group, where you have the chance to get to know, swap stories with, and ask advice of other nannies. You are also provided with a monthly newsletter containing information on upcoming children's events in the area, as well as advice columns from other nannies!
Why go through an agency?
With us, you are interviewing families who have been thoroughly checked out (we do background checks on them, too!), so you don't have to worry about getting stuck with crazy people. Plus, we only send you on interviews with families who meet your specifications (as thoroughly as possible. Unless, you know, you request them to be green or something...). And there is no replacement for the support and friendship of other nannies! Also, our families are required to pay a minimum wage of $15/hour, or the equivalent in salary, and to provide at least one week of paid vacation per year, as well as paid sick days.
What is required to apply with us:
A minimum of two years professional childcare experience
CPR and First Aid certification (not required at application, but must have before interviewing)
Background check (we perform)
Driver's record check (we perform)
Valid Social Security number
A minimum of four solid references
What will this cost?
The cost is to the families for the placement, there is no cost to our nannies.
The Sugar Co-op:
Let's face it, being a nanny can be an isolating job! By joining the co-op, you receive our newsletter, and the support groups, but you are also able to attend our yearly nanny workshop and training seminar!
